Our History

The Burnie Agricultural & Pastoral Society formed in 1913 and endured some tumultuous times of war, rain, fire and great depression. Yet through all this it has survived by our ability to change direction when needed.

Traditionally societies are known for their annual agricultural shows held in nearly 500 hundred locations throughout Australia. However, there is far more to this Society than our annual show.

2019 marked a significant change in the Society with the sale of the Wivenhoe ground and our 100th show opened by the Prime Minister at the new 40ha Agriplex site just 7km south of Burnie.

The Society can now host significant local, state and national events on our very own Agriplex site not to just showcase and support our agricultural community. The annual show is the ultimate event on the calendar to celebrate what our region and state have to offer.
